Week 17 - Dec 15

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week.

The 4th through 6th grade students have been practicing reading articles and finding facts by doing research on an animal. They are putting their notes together in either a report or a power point.

Second grade students have been doing math word problems.
Third grade students have been doing multiplication practice in AAA Math.
First grade students have been doing phonics work in Starfall or Let's Go Learn.

Ms. Link's class started research on birds.
Mr. O'Connor's class is doing research on astronomy.

Week 15 - Dec 2

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week. They will do beginning addition games in Sheppard Math.

Ms. Cason's and Ms. Ruff's classes will do phonics in Let's Go Learn.
Ms. Nels' class will phonics activities with long A in Starfall.
Second grade classes will do addition and subtraction word problems.
Mr. O'Connor's class will start research on astronomy topics in Astronomy for Kids.
Ms. Nichols' class will do beginning multiplication activities in AAAMath.

Fourth through sixth graders will do typing practice in Typing Web.
They will practice reading an article and finding facts by doing research on an animal. They will present their work, including their sources, with either a written report or a powerpoint.

Week 14: Nov 25

No school Wednesday through Friday. Happy Thanksgiving!

Classes are doing math practice and finishing up research about Plimoth.

Week 13: Nov 18

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week. They will work on counting and addition games in Sheppard Math.

4th through 6th grade classes will practice in Typing Web and study the Plimoth Plantation.
First grade classes will do phonics practice.
Second grade classes will practice doing math story problems.
Third grade classes will study the first Thanksgiving.

Week 12: Nov 11

No school Monday or Tuesday.
No kindergarten classes this week.

4th through 6th graders will do keyboard practice in Typing Web.
Classes will complete any unfinished writing and powerpoint projects.
Classes will begin presentations of student powerpoints.

As we finish the presentations, upper grade classes will start practicing research skills.

Ms. Nels' class will read folk tales and myths in Starfall.
Mr. O'Connor's class will practice multiplication facts in Sheppard Math.
Ms. Nichols' class will practice subtraction with regrouping in FactMonster.

Week 11: Nov 4

No school Tuesday due to Parent-Teacher conferences.
Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week. They will do early math activities in Sheppard Math.

All 4th through 6th grade classes will practice in Typing Web.
All 4th through 6th grade classes will complete all unfinished projects.

Mr. O'Connor's class will finish their ocean biome research.
Ms. Nichols' class will practice in Typing Web.
Ms. Nels' class will read myths and folk tales in Starfall.

Week 10 - Oct 28

The internet problems have been fixed and classes are back on schedule.

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week. They will do phonics games in Starfall.

No classes on Friday.

Most second grade classes will do reading comprehension exercises in Nussbaum.
All 4th through 6th grade classes will do Typing Web.
Ms. Malone's class will do Spelling City.
Most classes will complete all word processing and power point projects.

Week 9 - Oct 21

All computer lab activities are on hold. The district has been hit by a virus/malware and the internet and network are down. They hope to have things fixed soon. Parent volunteers - please check with me in the morning to be sure we're having lab.

No kindergarten classes this week.

All fourth through sixth grade classes will do typing practice in Typing Web.
All upper grade classes will finish their powerpoints and complete any outstanding work.
Third graders will practice typing in Typing Web.
Third grade classes are doing preparation for research projects. We'll be learning how to do searches that produce sites at the appropriate reading and comprehension level and how to find accurate data.
Ms. Hilton's and Ms. Billings' classes will finish the Accelerated Reader assessments.
Ms. Ruff's class will finish the Let's Go Learn assessments.

Week 8 - Oct 13

Kindergarten classes have lab this week. They will do math practice in Harcourt Math.

All third through sixth grade classes will do keyboarding practice in Typing Web.
All fourth through sixth grade classes will work on their Powerpoint presentations.
Ms. Nels' class will do money practice in Sheppard Math.
Ms. Hilton's and Ms. Billings' classes will start the Accelerated Reader assessments.
Ms. Ruff's class will work on the assessments in Let's Go Learn.

Note: things did not always go as scheduled due to a server issue at the district which broke the internet filtering so almost everything was blocked for a few days. We'll continue on the various projects next week.

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week to do phonics activities in Starfall.

First grade classes will do phonics activities in either Starfall or Let's Go Learn.
Second grade classes will do language arts assessments in Accelerated Reader or Let's Go Learn.
Third grade classes will start keyboarding practice in Typing Web.
Fourth through Sixth grade classes will do keyboarding practice in Typing Web.
Fourth through sixth grade classes will start powerpoint presentations on the drought.
Ms. Gray's class will do work processing for a classroom activity.
Mrs. Link's class will finish typing their fall poems.

Note: the Accelerated Reader assessments didn't work so the second graders did math fact practice in FactMonster. We'll try again next week.

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week. They will learn about the computer lab and do phonics practice in Starfall.

All 5th and 6th graders will do a baseline test in Typing Web.
4th through 6th graders will work on a tutorial on Microsoft Word.
3rd graders will practice logging on to the computers.
2nd and 3rd graders will do math practice.
1st graders will do phonics practice in Starfall.

Week 1 - Aug 25

The computer lab is now open for 4th through 6th grade classes.
Students are working on all the log in procedures for the computers and for Typing Web. Every upper grade student has a Typing Web account and will be practicing for at least 15 minutes every computer lab visit.

May 13 - Testing is Done!

All of the third graders finished the SBAC testing today! I'm proud of our students who worked hard, took the test seriously (even though their individual scores don't count this year),  and took the computer aspect of the test in stride. Things went very smoothly and we're already finished!

April 14 - COMPUTER LAB CLOSED

April 28  update: all the 5th graders are now done testing! Things are going very smoothy so far. 4th graders start this week.

April 21 update: all 6th graders completed their testing last week. Good work! This week the 5th graders are testing.

Computer lab is closed to regular classes until mid-May.
SBAC testing starts Monday, April 14, in the lab. Due to testing security protocols, no parent volunteers can be present.

Check back in May - as soon as testing is completed, we'll open again.

Kindergarten classes come to the lab this week.

All third through sixth grade classes will watch the training videos for the upcoming online testing.
Ms. Hilton's class will practice fractions in Harcourt Math.
Ms. Cason's class will practice time in Harcourt Math.
Mrs. Link's class will practice making change in FunBrain changemaker.

Note: the computer lab will be closed to regular class visits during SBAC testing which starts immediately after spring break. Due to security protocols, no parent volunteers will be allowed in the lab during testing.

Mr. Gill's class will finish their research on survival skills.
Most second grade classes will practice fractions in Harcourt.
Most third grade classes will practice area and perimeter.

Most fourth through sixth grade classes will practice specific search techniques and typing in URLs by doing a worksheet on the Olympics.

No kindergarten classes this week.
First and second grade students will practice math facts in Sheppard Math.

All third through sixth grade classes will take the online practice SBAC test this week. Note to parents: there's no identification associated with this; all students are logging in as guest. The district wants to try out the technology and logistics before students take this test in the spring. Our students are giving some very valuable feedback about the mechanics of the test and they're being very good sports!
